The Director

Isobel Child, MA (Cantab)

After a degree at Cambridge University in Languages (French and Italian) and Social and Political Sciences, I worked in tourism for twelve years. Highlights were setting up and running the European office of a US student tour operator, and latterly, managing Kuoni UK’s youth tour operations worldwide.

I moved to the London Institute, later University of the Arts London, in 1994, where I developed a commercial short course operation at two of its smaller specialist art colleges. Later I set up a University-wide Study Abroad programme which, when I left,  was recruiting 1,000 students each year, and generating an annual income for the University of nearly £5 million. During my time there, I also had responsibility for developing exchange programmes and for implementing an internationalisation strategy, working with the Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellors.

Approach

I have a particular interest in working with educational institutions to build their global presence, and commercialise their activities, but I am adaptable and flexible, and always up for a challenge! I have excellent business planning and development experience, strategic insight, energy and persistence, and strong collaborative working skills. Colleagues tell me that I am admired for my sound judgement and effective leadership.
